This training programme equips teaching assistants with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make a sustained difference. Delegates will develop skills to recognise and respond to individual student needs, tailoring support to enable progress. The course highlights the value of effective feedback, relationship-building and collaborative approaches that help students take ownership of their learning. Practical strategies for scaffolding, questioning and behaviour management will be introduced, alongside opportunities to reflect on practice and share insights with peers. By focusing on realistic, adaptable methods, this programme ensures that teaching assistants are well-prepared to contribute to inclusive and supportive learning environments. There will also be time given for Q&A.
Session 1: Feedback, Dialogue and Relationship Building
In this session, teaching assistants will focus on how to develop rapport and strong relationships with students, identifying strengths and areas for improvement to accurately identify suitable next steps. This session will also focus on high quality feedback and how this can be utilised to support all students. |
Gap Task
Delegates to take the strategies and approaches covered during Session 1 and implement with students prior to Session 2, sharing feedback in Session 2 on impact. |
Session 2: Scaffolding and Individualisation
This session will look at how teaching assistants can effectively adapt resources to support all learners to develop and progress. Combined with collaborative approaches to questioning and target setting, delegates will learn a range of strategies and approaches to stretch, challenge and support students. |
