This session is designed to showcase a range of best-practice strategies to efficiently assess students with minimal workload, supporting students to track their own progress and focusing learning. From in-lesson assessment to long-term tracking of student performance, this session has a range of takeaway strategies for giving effective written and verbal feedback, ensuring improved impact for all students. There will also be time given for Q&A.

Session 1:  Assessment Best Practice, Design and Evaluation

In this session, delegates will look at evidence based approaches to initial assessment and accurately (and efficiently) identifying student starting points, ensuring all students are aware of their strengths, areas for improvement and suitable next steps. This will include looking at assessment in the short, medium and long-term, and looking at low stakes assessment approaches.

Gap Task

  • Delegates will implement approaches outlined in Session 1 and trial this approach between Session 1 and Session 2. In Session 2, there will be time to share feedback on the impact of the chosen approach.
Session 2: Questioning and Individualising Assessment

In this session, delegates will look at powerful, simply implemented questioning strategies and how these can be used to identify gaps in knowledge and learning. Additionally, delegates will look at a range of support tools which can be utilised to ensure all learners can access assessment.
