Jonny is a highly experienced former teacher and senior leader across Secondary and Further Education, and a former Ofsted Inspector. This course is structured to allow teachers and leaders to evaluate and analyse a range of effective feedback and marking strategies and techniques. Using evidence informed approaches, teachers and leaders will build on existing knowledge and understanding of marking and feedback to empower students and allow rapid and sustained progress through a range of approaches. With a focus on delegating workload to students, this session is packed with practical strategies and workload saving methods. There will also be time given for Q&A.

2 x 2-hour training sessions, with a gap task:

Session 1:  Effective Feedback – Delegation and Impact

This session focuses on outlining what makes impactful feedback and how we can use feedback to support students to make rapid and sustained progress. Using high impact, low workload self and peer assessment strategies, and a dialogic approach, this session looks at delegating workload to students, whilst also ensuring that teacher expertise is at the heart of feedback.

Gap Task

  • Delegates will identify one of the approaches outlined in Session 1 and trial this approach with a group in the time between Session 1 and Session 2. In Session 2, there will be time to share feedback on the impact of the chosen approach.
Session 2: Innovation in Feedback – Supporting All Learners To Achieve

This session looks at using a range of innovative solutions to providing actionable feedback to all students, ‘closing the loop’ and allowing students to identify suitable next steps whilst also incorporating flipped learning approaches to prepare students for future lessons. Opportunities will also be given for delegates to feedback following the gap task.
