Aims of the course

Through watching videos, interactive activities, and discussions participants will develop the instructional leadership and lesson observation skills of educational leaders, coordinators, and Heads of Department.  

Participants will explore the characteristics of effective teaching and learning, understand the key indicators used during classroom observations and school inspections, and learn how to evaluate teaching quality using the UAE School Inspection Framework. The workshop also emphasizes distinguishing between attainment and progress, supporting teacher development through constructive feedback, and promoting effective learning practices that lead to improved student outcomes. 

Intended outcomes
  • Discuss the characteristics of a good lesson (Warm-Up Activity).  
  • Identify what is evaluated during a lesson observation (Activity 1).  
  • Discuss the aspects that inspectors target and look for during lesson observations (Activity 2).  
  • Distinguish between teaching and learning (Activity 3).  
  • Discuss how the teaching and learning process is evaluated based on the School Inspection Framework (Activity 4).  
  • Identify the two key roles of Heads of Department according to the UAE School Inspection Framework (Activity 5).  
  • Identify the essential steps toward effective learning (Activity 6).  
  • Distinguish between the terms “attainment” and “progress” (Activity 7). 
  • Discuss the best ways to provide feedback to teachers (Wrap up Activity).
