Target audience

PRIMARY and SECONDARY School librarians who wish to learn more about communication skills and working within teams. This course will also be suitable for library team leaders.

Aims of the course

This course draws upon that experience looking at how the school librarian can manage their own library staff and also considers the role they may play collaborating with other members of the wider school community. Successful communication plays an important role in ensuring positive impact of library services. The course will cover different team scenarios as well as looking at skills needed as both a team leader and as a team member.

Intended outcomes
  • A better awareness of the way in which teams develop with time and how to manage change
  • A knowledge of using communication techniques to maximise positive collaboration and successful outcomes in different types of teams as a leader or a participant
  • An understanding of how to grow networks by making new contacts outside the school and forging links for positive impact on the library service

Programme details:

Whenever we work with a least one other person we are part of a team. We might be leading that team or we might be a participant. Whatever our role, communication skills and understanding team dynamics are important to the outcome and impact of the collaboration on the library service we provide. This course will help delegates understand the process and to put theory into practice to maximise the chances of success.
