Adaptive Teaching with Impact is a practical, evidence-informed professional development course for teachers and school leaders who want to make responsive teaching more precise, manageable and effective.

The course helps participants move beyond traditional differentiation towards a clear and sustainable model of adaptive teaching. Using a  Notice → Diagnose → Adapt → Check → Extend framework, participants learn how to identify barriers to learning, select appropriate strategies, check understanding and adapt teaching in ways that improve pupil progress without creating unnecessary workload.

Every stage of the course includes practical tools. Participants use strategy summary cards, classroom scenarios, planning prompts, video examples to translate research into immediate classroom action. The course is designed to be highly practical, with opportunities to apply the tools to real lessons, subjects and school contexts.

DAY 1
8:45  Registration and refreshments
9:00  Session 1: What adaptive teaching is — and what it is not
Grounded in the science of learning and metacognition, participants explore the difference between adaptive teaching, differentiation and individualisation, as applied in British curriculum schools. The session introduces the training framework and examines how adaptive teaching can improve learning without increasing workload. Teachers trained in the US will also be able to connect the learning to their training in Tier 1, 2 and 3 instruction, process and content differentiation.
10:30  Coffee break
11:00  Session 2: Notice and diagnose — identifying barriers to learning
Participants use practical tools and classroom scenarios to identify barriers such as gaps in prior knowledge, vocabulary, fluency, misconceptions, attention, confidence and cognitive overload. They practise using diagnostic prompts and checking-for-understanding strategies using video to help understand the core approach.
13:00  Lunch break
14:00  Session 3: Adapt, check and extend — using strategies that make a difference
Participants work with 64 adaptive teaching strategy how-to cards. They will also learn how to set up an AI-Agent to support their professional learning. The how-to cards include strategies such as scaffolding, modelling, worked examples, hinge questioning, retrieval practice, vocabulary instruction and metacognitive prompts. The session ends with an individual or team implementation plan.
