Target audience

  • Newly qualified teachers wishing to develop an area of their practice, e.g. their classroom management.

Dr. Michael O'Neill is a teacher, trainer and author based in the UK with over 30 years experience in the classroom, as a Head of Department, Deputy Head and Director of Educational Strategies for a number of companies and a multi-academy trust. Dr. O'Neill has trained staff in the UK, UAE, Guernsey and Canada, with a focus on developing excellent teaching and learning approaches in the primary and secondary classroom. These have been referred to in multiple inspection reports where schools have received excellent judgements for the quality of their teaching and learning. Dr. O'Neill has also written 40+ textbooks for schools, focusing on secondary physics. He was also the recipient of the Teaching Awards Trust award for Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School for the North East and Cumbria in 2004. His course, ‘Highly Effective Teaching,’ focuses on the development of excellent teaching and learning strategies in the areas of classroom management, engagement, challenge, feedback, questioning and metacognition. There is also an element which allows teachers to measure the impact of their teaching on the quality of learning in the classroom. In his spare time, he loves to ski, play squash and cook!

Natalie Croome is a cross-curricular generalist, specialising in helping teams hone in on just what it is that student learning is showing them about possible areas of focus for teacher and/or leader learning. Using Professional Learning Standards as drivers in the design of high-quality Professional Learning Programmes, Natalie guides teams of leaders through engaging inquiries, honing in on connecting teacher learning to student learning. Natalie brings a fresh, adaptable and flexible approach to her work in leading Professional Learning; keeping it open to questions, research and taking a personal approach to the design process. In this way, she involves Professional Learners in the whole process, from identifying the focus area/s, designing the learning,facilitation, school-based practice, sharing findings, asking new questions... Areas of expertise include teacher identity, the ethics and professional practice of international education, global education pedagogies, bilingual & multilingual classrooms, inquiry-based learning, Cognitive Coaching, interdisciplinary & transdisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning, collaborative happiness, Positive Psychology and Emotional Intelligence. Natalie combines a professional approach with a sense of fun and a passion for connecting with people, building relationships, and leveraging curiosity, creativity and play as powerful learning tools.
