Aims of the course
  • To deepen teachers’ understanding of modern methodologies for teaching Arabic across the four language skills. 
  • To strengthen teachers’ ability to apply differentiated instructional strategies that address diverse learner needs and proficiency levels.
  • To equip teachers with effective and purposeful uses of educational technology to enhance engagement and balanced skill development. 
  • To support high-quality teaching practices aligned with KHDA Standard 4: Teaching for Learning, with a focus on inquiry, problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaborative learning.

Intended outcomes

Teachers will be able to: 

  • Apply contemporary Arabic teaching methodologies to effectively develop students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. 
  • Implement differentiated strategies that address varying proficiency levels and learning styles across all four language skills. 
  • Integrate educational technology purposefully to enhance student engagement, support skill acquisition, and promote collaborative and inquiry-based learning. 
  • تطبيق منهجيّات حديثة في تعليم اللّغة العربيّة لتطوير مهارات الاستماع والتّحدث والقراءة والكتابة لدى الطلبة بفاعليّة. 
  • تنفيذ استراتيجيات التّعليم المتمايز الّتي تراعي اختلاف مستويات الكفاءة وأنماط التّعلّم عبر المهارات الأربعة للّغة.

Imad is an experienced educational leader and Arabic Director with over two decades of expertise in language education and curriculum development across the GCC. He is an IB School Visit Team Member and certified Workshop Leader, with a proven track record of supporting schools in strengthening Arabic, Islamic, and MoE subject provision. With extensive experience teaching Arabic as a first and second language, Imad brings deep knowledge of intercultural communication, linguistics, translation, and foreign language pedagogy. His leadership roles have centred on elevating teaching and learning standards, developing curriculum pathways, and promoting meaningful integration of national identity and local culture within international school settings. Imad holds a PhD in Arabic Language Studies, a PGCE in Modern Languages from the University of Birmingham, and an NPQSL from UCL’s Institute of Education. He also holds a Teaching Diploma and a Postgraduate Diploma in Linguistics from the Lebanese University. His diverse academic and professional background equips him with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary educational challenges and innovative approaches to language teaching.

9:00  Overview of contemporary approaches to Arabic language teaching. 

Moving from teacher-led to inquiry-based and student-centered learning. 

Designing learning experiences that integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing. 

Practical classroom strategies to promote critical thinking and problem-solving in Arabic lessons.

11:00  Understanding proficiency levels and learning styles in Arabic classrooms. 

Differentiation strategies for Arabic A and Arabic B learners. 

Scaffolding tasks to support progression while maintaining high expectations. 

Using collaborative learning structures to support peer learning and engagement.

13:30  Participants design a lesson/activity, evaluate samples, and refine their work using course-aligned criteria.
