Target audience

Educators who are new to the early years or are newly adopting a play-based approach to learning in the early years 

Aims of the course

  • What makes a high-quality learning environment 
  • How to support high quality interactions 
  • Explore how continuous and enhanced provisions support independent learning and child-initiated activities. 
  • Understand the role of developmental milestones in planning effective learning activities. 
  • Understand the integration of literacy and maths into continuous and enhanced provision. 
  • Develop strategies to support children in becoming confident, motivated, and reflective learners.

Karla is an Early childhood educator, consultant, and passionate advocate of play. She has been working in the early childhood field for over 15 years, with extensive experience in maintained nursery schools in London and Sure Start centres. Karla also served as Principal of an Outstanding foundation school in Dubai. She has led teams to integrate cutting-edge international early childhood research into practice, pedagogy, and ethos. Now, as a consultant, Karla continues to inspire and challenge early years practitioners in the UAE and beyond, using my platform to foster growth and excellence in the field. As a previous facilitator of the NPQEYL in the UAE, Karla am dedicated to both teaching and learning from my peers, ensuring the highest quality of education for our young learners.

This 2-day course is designed for early years educators seeking to enhance their understanding and application of a play-based approach to teaching and learning. It will delve into high quality learning environments, continuous and enhanced provision, developmental milestones, and effective strategies for teaching literacy and mathematics. The first session will be information sharing, whilst the second day will build on prior learning and review implementation.
