Natalie Croome is a cross-curricular generalist, specialising in helping teams hone in on just what it is that student learning is showing them about possible areas of focus for teacher and/or leader learning. Using Professional Learning Standards as drivers in the design of high-quality Professional Learning Programmes, Natalie guides teams of leaders through engaging inquiries, honing in on connecting teacher learning to student learning.

Natalie brings a fresh, adaptable and flexible approach to her work in leading Professional Learning; keeping it open to questions, research and taking a personal approach to the design process.

In this way, she involves Professional Learners in the whole process, from identifying the focus area/s, designing the learning, facilitation, school-based practice, sharing findings, asking new questions…

Areas of expertise include: teacher identity, the ethics and professional practice of international education, global education pedagogies, bilingual & multilingual classrooms,inquiry-based learning, Cognitive Coaching, interdisciplinary &transdisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning, collaborative happiness, and curriculum design.

Natalie combines a professional approach with a sense of fun and a passion for connecting with people, building relationships, and leveraging curiosity, creativity and play as powerful learning tools.

Delivery Model A 6-hour course run over 4 weeks Each week, a 1.5 hour live, interactive online session. One week between live sessions will allow for completion of Extended Learning Tasks, including application in school settings.

Programme Details:

Together, we will explore the importance of Leaders being at the heart of the Professional Learning in their schools…as Learners. Issues including leadership skills and styles, impact on student learning, and describing your Professional Learners will be addressed and discussed. Our learning will be supported by relevant, current research, collaborative inquiry, finding context through application in YOUR school and planning for effective, equitable and differentiated Professional Learning opportunities for you and your colleagues to better meet the learning needs of your students, and each other.

Session 1: Why “Leaders Who Learn – Learners Who Lead”?

  • Recognise the key role of leaders in leading the design and facilitation of professional learning
  • Examine and compare skills involved in Leading and Learning
  • Appreciate the impact of Leaders being at the centre of Professional Learning

Session 2: Developing Your Capacity for Leading and Learning

  • Discuss “What does lifelong learning really mean?”
  • Appreciate the importance of being authentic and sincere in leading learning
  • Explore leadership styles – What is YOUR style?
  • Consider” Who are the Professional Learners you are leading?”
  • Compare the skills and responsibilities of being a manager, administrator, leader, and learner
  • Examine and analyse how you currently spend your time
  • Plan for finding a balance between your different roles. ”What are your priorities?”
  • Write your own “I am a Leader Who Learns” BIO statement

Session 3: IMPACT and The Power of Leaders Being Learners: When was the last time professional development has this kind of impact in your school?

  • Examine a case study of an impactful Professional Learning Programme
  • Reflect on and analyse the impact of recent Professional Learning in your school
  • Identify YOUR goals for the kind of impact you want Professional Learning to have in your school
  • What are KASABs and how can they help us plan for high-quality, impactful Professional Learning opportunities?

Session 4: Professional Learning Standards & Planning for and Participating in Effective Professional Learning the Learning Community in Your School

  • Reflect on and share ideas around a common professional reading
  • Identify, describe, and create impactful strategies for Leaders Who Learn
  • Discuss “Who is doing the learning and how do you know?”
  • Consider measurement and evidence of impact
  • Providing the right kind of Professional Learning for the right people at the right time
  • Ensuring that Professional Learning is equitable, effective, and differentiated
  • Setting goals (KASABs) and planning for impactful Professional Learning in YOUR school…with YOU at the centre of the learning.
