Course Summary

From September 2020 it will become a statutory requirement that mental health and wellbeing is taught in all schools as part of the national curriculum.

 

This course is an introductory for all staff to ensure they understand the changes to the curriculum and what this means in practice. The course will examine how the whole school community can ensure the school is mental health and wellbeing competent.

 

This course is a Level 2

 

Who is this course for?

The course is for all members of the school community:​

  • Teachers;
  • Ancillary staff;
  • Parents and Carers;
  • Governors and Trustees.

 

Aims of the course

The Aim of the course is to provide all staff with the knowledge required to ensure the school is mental health and wellbeing competent.

 

The course will examine roles and responsibilities and identify age appropriate activities to ensure pupils understand the new changes that will be implemented. ​

 

Intended Outcomes

Delegates will learn how to:

  • Identify the basic principles of mental health and wellbeing and the role school staff play;
  • Understand how to speak to a child or young person who may be experiencing mental health or wellbeing crisis;
  • Identify sign and symptoms of emotional distress, anxiety or depression in children and young people;
  • Understand the importance of early intervention;
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities for mental health and wellbeing;
  • Understand how to implement policy into practice for mental health and wellbeing;
  • Understand the importance of implementing a child or young person-centred approach;
  • Identify external support agencies;
  • Identify a mental health and wellbeing referral process;
  • Understand the importance of family engagement.

  • AED 600 per delegate plus 5% VAT = AED 630
