Aims of the course

To introduce delegates to Critical thinking and how to manage this in the classroom through guided activities

Mike has worked as a teacher trainer for most of his career. He was a Computing adviser for a Local Authority in the North East of England and is currently an Associate Lecturer at Newcastle University. Mike is also the Vice Chair of Governors in a local primary school and is currently providing training as an Incyte International Consultant.

Programme Details:

Provide a definition of Critical Thinking and the importance of being able to provide an element of logical reasoning when understanding topics. Encourage individuals to adopt a logical reasoning approach to question and challenge information, explore valid alternatives and arrives at well-reasoned conclusions

Session 2:  Reasoning

·     Deductive

·     Inductive

Session 3: Logical Reasoning

·       Connectives

·       Truth tables

·       Propositional Logic

Gap task:

·       Examples of text to analyse and comment on using the techniques given so far.

Session 4: Creative Problem solving.

·     Information source and bias

·     Fact Checking

·     Plenary open discussion.
