Target audience

PRIMARY Senior and aspiring leaders in primary schools.

Aims of the course

This course aims for senior leaders to have a greater in-depth knowledge of how their curriculum is taught and the process of the Deep Dive.

It aims to support leaders to carry out their own Deep Dives with their middle leaders and to develop robust professional dialogues to help and support the improvement of teaching and learning.

Intended outcomes

Practitioners will:

  • have a clear understanding of the relationship between intent, implementation and impact
  • have a clearer understanding of the importance of clear curriculum deliverable statements and plans
  • have a better understanding of their role in ensuring all the parts of the curriculum come together and how this relates to standards achieved
  • a greater appreciation of how to prepare for in-depth scrutiny of their own practice
  • a fuller understanding of the demands and process of effective evaluation
  • have more strategies at hand to manage staff effectively to attain the best outcomes

Malcolm Greenhalgh has significant experience in education in a range of countries including the Middle East. He has led training in all of these countries and fully understands their contexts. He is an experienced lead inspector and has trained other inspectors including HMI. As a consultant he has worked as a school improvement partner supporting schools to improve and helped to get an IB school in Dubai to gain the first outstanding grading for its curriculum. Malcolm has a deep interest in developing senior leadership skills to accurately evaluate, through the Deep Dive process, each of the school’s subject areas. He is skilled in supporting leaders to gather the evidence of curriculum content, delivery and assessment, innovation and inclusion, and how these have an impact on teaching, learning and achievement.
