  • To broaden the scope of Computing curriculum by instilling confidence in delegates to deliver a meaningful fun curriculum

Mike has worked as a teacher trainer for most of his career. He was a Computing adviser for a Local Authority in the North East of England and is currently an Associate Lecturer at Newcastle University. Mike is also the Vice Chair of Governors in a local primary school and is currently providing training as an Incyte International Consultant.

Session 1:  Computational Thinking and Computing

·     Computers in School

·     Elements of a Computing Curriculum


Session 2:  Information Technology (IT)

·     What is IT in a school context

·     Strategies for teaching elements in the context of Computational Thinking

Session 3: Digital Literacy (DL)

·       What is meant by DL?

·       Elements of DL and applying Computational Thinking

Gap task:

·       Develop an engaging task using your knowledge about IT and DL

Session 4: Computer Science

·     Using several educational programs to develop strategies for Computational Thinking

·     Develop assessment strategies to inform curriculum delivery.




Plenary Session:

  • Bring together strategies learned in the context of the classroom and share and reflect best practices
