The scope of consultancy provided by the company ranges from one-toone support for Head teachers to whole school development and strategic planning for SEND.

Gillian Douglas

Gillian Douglas has over thirty years’ experience as a secondary school teacher, senior leader with Local Authorities and educational consultant. Training to become an inspector, she is now in demand as an independent consultant, inspiring and supporting the development of understanding and knowledge around all aspects of children and young adults with SEND. Gillian has been involved with a large range of educational settings, services, professionals, and parents regarding SEND.

Throughout her career she has led many courses and conferences within England and Ireland to a wide range of professionals from all agencies including Education, Health Care, and parent forums.

Gillian is passionate about children and young people with SEND and has constantly sought to promote and enhance the inclusion of all young people within education – to improve their outcomes, reduce attainment gaps and ensure they meet their full potential through the availability of support systems. She has a passion for empowering schools and believes that partnership working can produce the best outcomes for learners. Fundamental to her work are high standards of professionalism and effective interpersonal and communication skills, including patience, empathy, and humour.

Devising a method of further including the parent “voice” at your setting and outline it with other leaders and receive their feedback/trial it with parents

The role of the school in communication and engagement for SEN pupils

  • An opportunity for discussion of methods proposed during the gap task with feedback
  • An inclusive school
  • Top-tips for interacting with a child/young person with SEN
  • The school team -understanding roles and responsibilities

Professional collaboration

  • Supporting the needs of the child as a set of professionals

  • Parent and child involvement in complex multi-agency teams.
