  • Learn about the Responsive Classroom approach to elementary education in a hands-on and interactive two-day workshop and take away strategies, routines, lesson ideas, structures, and more that you can begin to implement in your classroom.

Matthew Stensrud, Teacher & Music Educator is an award-winning and internationally acclaimed elementary music teacher currently living in the United States and teaching preschool through fourth grade general music and movement at the prestigious Sidwell Friends School in Washington DC. He was a key content contributor to the book Responsive Classroom for Music, Art, PE, & Other Special Areas and specializes in building a student-centered, inclusive, and responsive classroom for all. Now in his twelfth-year teaching, Matthew has both his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Music Education and his certification in Orff Schulwerk, an approach to music education that embraces playfulness, imagination, and creativity. As a teacher leader, Matthew presents workshops and classes to teachers across the world – from New York to Beijing – and often shares his expertise with fellow educators online through Instagram (@mistersorff), YouTube (www.youtube.com/matthewstensrud), and his website www.mistersorff.com.

Inspired by elementary educators, Responsive Classroom is an approach to education that recognizes the equal value of social and academic curriculum. Over two days, we’ll discuss teacher language, classroom management, learning structures, morning meetings, and more as we work toward being more effective educators and raising our students’ achievement through an improved classroom and school climate.
